Josh's Assembled Academy Experience

Finding the next step can be daunting to anyone entering an industry. Discovering if a career path works for you can take a lot of mental effort, causing worry or concern about if it’s the right fit. I found myself feeling unsure if the marketing world would be my place, feeling insecure as to whether I made the right choice towards the end of my Marketing Psychology degree.

Luckily, Assembled Academy gave me that security.

Over the 12 weeks, I worked with Assembled Media, initially more towards the client side where I got a feel on the planning and reporting of media, as well as the variety of campaigns across such a range of clients. At first, it felt like a lot of learning, having to understand what different media terms meant, having not learnt such information in my marketing-based degree. But this program really supports you with your learning, making information accessible and allowing for detailed explanations to give better clarity.

This led me into working with the digital team, where I got more of a feel with the online media channels such as Meta and Google. I got familiarized with automatic media buying and planning, and how the exchange of online advertising runs on a day-to-day basis. It felt good being given more responsibility on the campaigns, assisting in implementing different ads for different clients across different campaigns. You get a better understanding on why this data can change, and how the online world can be ever-changing with current and upcoming online trends.

I truly learnt a lot over such a short span of time. Not only in terms of media knowledge and digital platform experience, but also in more transferable skills like my verbal and written communication, as well as the general confidence in my career choices and general decision-making.
